What the heck is this map with random dots all over it? It's simply everything to buy local!
Just move to a new city and can't find a good local theatre? On vacation and just want to find a local coffee shop with some flare? What to be adventurous from your routines and taste a new local restaurant? Want to simply support local businesses but not sure who they are? We have all been in these situations, so why do we still go to the local chain food store? Habits. Bad habits. And not thinking that that $10 could have went a long way at supporting a local bakery.
Why are we doing this? We want to fight the Walmarts of the world. We want to support and strengthen local businesses by uniting them and helping them get exposure to customers in addition to helping them connect with each other. If we can get even a fraction of the massive consumer base to change habits to spend locally, we can positively affect local economies. We can help keep local business diversity alive.
So what can you do to support local? First off, you can buy local. Think about your habits. Can you try a new coffee shop instead of Starbucks each morning? If they end up tasting like watered-down dirt, then whatever - you tried & can go back. Starbucks will not have hurt feelings.
